So I wanted to take a minute and tell all my followers about the AMAZING experience that I got to have last Wenesday night. First of all I got to goto the famous Carnegie Hall to see an acoustic performance by Ian Feliz (of the Feliz Brothers) and Conor Oberst whos music has inspired me since I was in middle school, so much so that I tattooed his lyrics on my body. Seeing him for the third time in an intimate environment like that for me was enough, but of course my boyfriend made friends with this guy we met who’s brother is in Kurt Vile & the Violators he played harmonica on stage at roo last year with them AND war on drugs) and was invited to the after party because apparently he said him & Conor were good friends. He was from Philly and didn’t know the city all that well, so being the nice people we are me & my boyfriend offered to show him where the after party was (aka hop in a cab & tell the driver the address). We arrive at this little hole in the wall down in Alphabet City a long way from the glamourus Carnegie Hall. I was skeptical walking in to this dive looking bar, thinking this guy may have been lying. But once we walked in we saw Conors back up singers still in their clothes from on stage, got introduced to his tour manager & many other people….but not him. Time went on, we took advantage of the special that included a can of PBR and a shot of luke warm whiskey for $6 (a steal in NYC no matter how gross) and talked with our new friend about his life traveling from festival to festival selling jello shots & t-shirts (maybe some of you have even met him) then we go outside to have our first cigarette of the night, just me my boyfriend john and our new friend pauly. About halfway through our cigarette I hear a car door close behind me, and footsteps coming up toward us. Before I could even look behind me to see what was coming, Conor Oberst himself is standing between John & I with his arms around each of us saying hi to his friend Pauly (who turned out to be telling the truth) he smelt of whiskey and his hair was a mess but he was incredibly happy. I was almost in shock & not able to even say anything being introduced to him, I’m honestly not sure if my words even formed the way I meant for them to. All I remember is telling him how much his music inspired me, and asking if I could show him my tattoo. He laughed, and asked if it was in an appropriate place. I lifted my shirt to expose my ribs where the words “No Lies Just Love” appear…this is a song he wrote for his first nephew. He leaned back, said it was lovely then bent over and kissed it. I didn’t even know what to do with myself. Thank god he went inside shortly after so I could calm down and let out a tear or two. The rest of the night was a blur, sharing a joint with the man I’ve listened to for year, meeting his family and even his wife (though she did have quite the attitude). Overall I left with an incredible feeling, one that I won’t ever forget. Many people have meaningful song lyrics tattooed onto them, but I was lucky enough to get the chance to show the artist who wrote mine the tattoo. I hope everyone gets to feel what I felt that night someday, it was truely magical.
smoking a joint with conor oberst god damn

Don’t you see the rest of the country looks upon New York like we’re left-wing, communist, Jewish, homosexual pornographers? I think of us that way sometimes and I live here.
